beach portraits in the sun. It was freezing cold on this day and our bride and groom were brave enough to head out to the beach for just a few minutes. We did get an empty beach - not easy! It's so important to be quick and deliberate when we have to get great shots and also prevent our beautiful models from freezing... One reason we bring lights and assistant and a let's go attitude.

Maier Family 39 - Home Gym. We are in year 21 of our family series. We have taken 2 whacky family portraits every year for the first 18 years and are now down to once/year. We pick a theme and try to find a fun and exaggerated way to portray it with props, sets, costumes. In trying to hint at the pandemic year without resorting to the obvious face masks, the home gym is what we came up with. As always, thanks to @sylviamaiernyc and the kids (well, young adults now) for still playing along and for reluctantly putting on extra tight leotards, it's asking a lot - i know...

For over 15 years, we have hosted a dinner with friends in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It has been and always is our favorite get-together, and an occasion to reflect on our shared humanity, civil rights, and progress however slow. Every guest picks a MLK quote and we take turns reading them out loud before dinner.
We will miss our friends this year and will have a mini version with just our kids.

Look at this amazing and original spiral ceremony setup. The bride and groom get to walk by each and every guest on their way in and out of the ceremony. Cocktail hour set up is right alongside. I will miss all the wonderful and original small outdoor weddings for a few months going into the cold season.
