Going to high school in Germany, a very large part of our history teachings were dedicated to the Holocaust. It was to instill a shared responsibility for the actions of our previous generations, to be aware of and to reject antisemitism and other racial or ethnic bias, and to remind us to never forget. We can never let atrocities towards Jewish people - or any other people - ever happen again.
It is so sad and shocking to see what is going on in Israel. My heart goes out to the people of Israel and so many of my friends here in NYC with friends and families there.
