Meet your photographer
André Maier
Photographer and founder, est. 1992
André’s path to weddings crossed countries and disciplines. After chemistry and molecular biology at King’s College London, he trained at the London College of Printing, and his relaxed, observant photojournalism was soon appearing in magazines. The work brought him extraordinary rooms and people, including the Dalai Lama.
At a wedding he works as an unobtrusive observer, photographing personalities and the relationships between people while the day runs its own course.
“I’m very mellow, I’m not directing people or trying to run the show, and so I’m a calming influence on the couple, their attendants, and the guests. Nothing throws me off; I welcome the day’s little surprises because those unexpected happenings often result in the most beautiful photographs.”
André lives with his wife, the painter Sylvia Maier, their two sons, and two Labrador retrievers, between Brooklyn and Los Angeles.

The familyhe has alwaysphotographed.
For as long as André has photographed other people’s families, he has photographed his own. Sylvia Maier, a painter, and their two sons have sat for him every six months since 1991, in Brooklyn and in Los Angeles, dogs included. The photographs below are from that record.
